Welcome

Heather Burt is a Vancouver writer with global interests. Her novel Adam's Peak, shortlisted for the BC Book Prize, follows its troubled characters from suburban Montreal to 1960s small-town Scotland to the volatile political landscapes of Sri Lanka. Heather's short stories likewise cross borders of one kind or another in their explorations of human experience.

Working in other genres, Heather has authored an allegorical stage play, Olympians (available for production), numerous non-fiction articles focused on health and sustainability, and a well-loved photo blog, Walking With Freddie (2013 - 2015).

"Heather Burt fits naturally and beautifully into that group of writers who have given Canadian literature its reputation for creating compelling psychological landscapes peopled by wonderfully wise and complex characters."

THE LATEST SCOOP ...

If you're a fan of the late (great) English novelist Barbara Pym — or even if you're not (yet) — check out Heather's short story "Jelly Selves," winner of the 2021 Ellen J. Miller short story prize, sponsored by the Barbara Pym Society. The story draws inspiration from Pym's novel A Glass of Blessings (also well worth a read!).
